DESCRIPTION:Taking inspiration from a long history of invention on Parker’s Piece\, join artist Emma Smith to pace the piece in a walk and talk to unfold the local inventions and knowledge that have inspired her artworks. \n\n\n\nFrom the invention of football rules to test driving the first steam coach\, the history of Parker’s Piece abounds with invention. Join artist Emma Smith to walk the four sides of the Piece while she shares projects from 4 sides of the city inspired by its curious histories and the knowledge of its residents past and present. Depart Reality Checkpoint to discover a world of artistic inventions from charts to devine your perfect artwork to the creation of a 2200 year long song. Emma is an award-winning artist based in Cambridge who works internationally. She is current artist in residence for Cromwell Road Public Art Programme. SUMMARY:A Tour of Burnside Allotments
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to permission from the managing committee\, this tour offers a rare opportunity to a find out about a unique place in Cambridge city: Burnside Allotments. These allotments have been helping to feed the locality from the 1930s. DESCRIPTION:Mill Road History Society’s own (local legend) Allan Brigham leads a walking tour of the Kite area. He will be accompanied by Susan Woodall who will also talk about the Women’s Refuge Centre. \nWe will meet at 6:30pm at the Fitzroy Street entrance to the Grafton Centre (outside the Co-operative Bank)\, taking a gentle walk around the area\, and ending at around 8:30pm. \nAll are welcome but places are limited so please email admin@millroadhistory.org.uk to book your place. You’re welcome to turn up on the day but we may have to turn you away if it is full. We will be asking for a £5 donation per person to the Society’s funds (to be collected before the walk). \n

The tour will be approximately 2 hours long with the following itinerary. \n\n5:00 pm – meet at the Cemetery entrance at the Mill Road end of the Avenue of Limes (next to Costa Coffee) (Map)\n6:30 pm – visit Bharat Bhavan (the old Library) (Map)\n7:00 pm – end at the Bath House where refreshments will be served (open to all) (Map)\n\nThe walk must be booked through Open Cambridge.
