Music: Na-Mara – The Story of the Basque Children

Tuesday, 18 June, 2019 , 7:30 pm 10:00 pm

Courtesy of R. Garcia

In May 1937, a month after the bombing of Guernica, 4000 young children were evacuated from Bilbao to Southampton aboard the SS Habana. With no support from a British Government set on non-intervention in the Spanish Civil War, the ‘niños’ were subsequently cared for by volunteers in towns and cities across the UK, including Cambridge. Through words and music, Rob Garcia (the son of a niño) and Paul McNamara will tell the story of the ‘Basque children’.  Together, Rob and Paul comprise folk duo, Na-Mara.

Tickets are £8 in advance from https://cambridgefolkclub.co.uk/collections/tickets/products/20190618-tuesday-18th-june-na-mara or £10 on the door (if available).
